Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo: A Great Product at a Not-So-Great Price

My hairdresser was giving out free samples of Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo, and she recommended it for me, so I took one. I have very dry, lifeless, and frizzy hair, and she told me that it would help add hydration and thickness to make my hair easier to control. I’ll try anything that promises to do that, even though I usually don’t have much luck. So far, I think I’ve tried hair repair shampoos from all the major companies, but nothing seems to work as well as it promises. So, I brought my sample of Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo home to try out.

From what I’ve heard about Ojon products, they’re supposedly made from some special Central American tree that’s only cultivated by one small group of indigenous people. That’s where the primary ingredient, the Ojon oil, comes from. According to the packaging, the Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo also contains oils from Creatine, Babassu, Macadamia, and Jojoba. I can’t say I have a lot of experience with any of these substances, so I was intrigued.

When I opened the small bottle of Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo, I was surprised by how strong it smelled. It couldn’t quite put my finger on what the scent was, but it was a little bit like coconut, a little bit musky, and a definitely a bit nutty. I know that a few online reviews have complained about the smell of Ojon products, but I don’t understand why it should bother anyone. Lots of beauty products have all kinds of strange smells, and this one isn’t any worse than some of the others. Besides, to me, when a product has a strong smell, that just means that it’s full of strong ingredients. And I have to say that, after I started using the product, the harsher elements of the smell did not linger.

The directions for this shampoo say to apply a small amount to the hair, massage it into the scalp, and let it sit for one minute before rinsing well. Easy enough. I used mine at night, blow dried my hair, and went to bed. The next morning, there was definitely a difference. After using it a couple more times, I did notice my hair becoming slightly thicker and easier to manage.

Unfortunately, I only had a small sample bottle, so I had to go out and buy some more to continue my experiment. That’s where the trouble started. Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo is one of the most expensive shampoos at the store. The smallest bottle, only 2 ounces in size, was 9 dollars. Have you ever seen a 2 oz bottle of shampoo? It was barely bigger than the free sample I’d gotten from my hairdresser.

That price-related complaint aside, I did purchase another bottle of Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo, and I continued to use it for the next few weeks. I noticed the biggest difference over the first month, when my hair got continuously straighter and thicker, less frizzy, and softer to the touch. I was all ready to keep using it, but the effect seemed to level out after a while, so I switched to something cheaper. In any case, Ojon seems to be the real deal, and I look forward to trying other some of the products they offer.
